Majority of NGOs named Tamar Gurchiani as candidate for Ombudsmen

October 11, 2012

Big part of Georgian non-governmental organizations and civic unions nominated member of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association Tamar Gurchiani as a candidature for Public Defender.

Tamar Chugoshvili, chairwoman of GYLA, stated at the press conference on October 11.

“After several-day-consultations, NGOs, working on human rights issues, reached agreement on the candidature of future ombudsman. We want to propose Tamar Gurchiani’s candidature to the new parliament,” said Tamar Chugoshvili.

NGOs clarified that they nominated Gurchiani because of her long experience in the field and high qualification in jurisprudence.

More than 40 NGOs and civic unions voted Tamar Gurchiani’s candidature for this position.
