Kakha Kokhreidze: “Private Companies Paid More Taxes to Budget than Law Obliged Them”

October 19, 2012

President of Small and Medium Business Association speaks about oppression on business and general statistics of forced tax payments to the budget.

Kakha Kokhreidze said only in 2012 private companies appealed to the Revenue Service and complained about payment of almost 1 billion lari taxes that was illegal according to their allegation.

He added that big part of budget was filled in based on the so-called agreements when tax-payer had to make a deal. They had to pay much more than the law obliged them and tried to avoid additional inconveniences.

Kokhreidze said the Association supports revising the tax discipline in the frame of the rule of law and believes that significant amendments must be introduced to the tax law.

Additionally, the Association positively evaluates possible annulment of the Business Ombudsman’s institute.

Kokhreidze said, based on the statements made by government’s economic team members, he believes, there is readiness of dialogue and direct involvement of business-associations in the process of legislative reforms. Consequently, at this stage the Association does not see any necessity to have a mediator between businessmen and government moreover when Prime-Minister was approving business-ombudsman on the position and independence and impartiality of this institute was questionable.
