Defense Ministry’s Press Center Denies Information About Reduced Salaries of Ministry Employees

November 2, 2012
An employee of the Defense Ministry told Human Rights Center that in October he received 200 lari less salary. “We were told the situation will be same in the following two months. They will reduce 200 lari from our salaries but the sum will be divided and reimbursed in the following months. I do not know whether every employee had this problem. Maybe, former minister Dimitry Shashkin is wasting our money somewhere,” the source of information told us, who still continues working at the defense ministry.

Funds of the Ministry of Defense attracted public attention soon after the new minister occupied the position. Irakli Alasania told Media that there are 113 million lari deficiencies in the ministry budget. At this stage we do not know yet what those funds were spent on by Alasania’s predecessor.

Head of press-center of the Defense Ministry Nino Potrzhebskaia said information about 200 lari reduced salaries is not correct. “I completely received my salary. I can check this information at the financial service,” said she and called us later. Potrzhebskaia said the ministry had not reduced money from anybody’s salary and it can be considered official comment of the Defense Ministry.

Short time ago, Nino Potrzhebskaia claimed that former minister Dimitry Shashkin had not fled anywhere and he had gone to the USA on business trip.
