Human Rights Center Requests Honorable Release of Political Prisoners

11.10.2012

Human Rights Center was one of those first organizations, which started speaking about politically motivated persecution of people in Georgia. In 2009, the Center, together with the International Federation for Human Rights FIDH, published special report about political prisoners in Georgia. Many local and international organizations spoke about this problem.

Human Rights Center below publishes list of assumed political prisoners in Georgia. We think, number of political prisoners can be more and our list does not provide complete information about politically motivated persecution facts. The list does not include facts of administrative imprisonments and information about people who sheltered foreign countries due to political persecution.

Human Rights Center requests government immediate, unconditional and honorable release of political prisoners that is quite probable if the president pardons them. Before court revises their cases, those people shall return to their families and court shall discuss and restitute breached rights in all concrete cases. Issue of political prisoners’ rehabilitation shall be discussed at one of the nearest parliamentary sessions.

Human Rights Center appeals to the newly elected parliament to pass special normative act to resolve this problem and to officially declare the below-listed people to be political prisoners.
