Parliamentary Majority Intends Amendments of the Election Law

November 22, 2012
On November 21, draft-amendments to the election code were discussed at the joint session of the human rights and legal committees of the parliament. The draft-law, initiated by the parliamentary majority, intends to hold two interim elections per year in the majoritarian districts which remained without MPs.

Majority clarified: “Amendments will be introduced to Article 129 of the Election Code and the purpose is to protect voters’ interests. Namely, voters shall not remain without representatives in the legislative body for a long time. Interim elections shall take place twice per year – in April and in October.”

Parliamentary minority does not support the draft-law; they think two elections in a year will cost expensive and it will negatively impact state budget. They think, the Constitution fixes the Election Day and introduction of new amendments to the election code has political motives.
