Amendments to the Law to Reinforce Rights of an Employee

November 26, 2012

Healthcare Committee of the Parliament started working on the amendments to the Labor Code of Georgia. Parliamentary majority thinks acting law ignores rights of employees and shall be immediately amended. They said the pending amendments will reinforce rights of the employees.

“The Labor Code shall be completely amended but at this moment we will work only on the article which is directly oriented on the rights of an employer over employee. We should pay attention to and respect people, who have been holding assemblies in front of the parliament lately and complaining for their breached rights. We started working on it and soon we will work on other articles of the Labor Code too,” MP Guguli Magradze said.

Protest assemblies in front of the Parliament of Georgia have acquired permanent character recently. Workers of Kutaisi Still Factory, Tkibuli Mine and Zestaponi Ferroalloy Factory requested protection of their rights and increase of their salaries. First session of the parliament was held alongside the assembly of workers. On October 21, workers of various enterprises requested the new MPs to annul short-term and oral labor contracts and stop of slavery approach of the administrations to them.
