Georgian Dream Has Selected Lanchkhuti District Governor

December 4, 2012

Tents were set up in front of the Lanchkhuti district administration several days ago and protesters are still undergoing a hunger strike. They request the resignation of the interim district governor, Kakha Askurava.

Humanrights.ge learned that soon competition for the vacant position of the district governor will be announced. The competition commission will submit information about applicants to the municipal board.

The head of the municipal board Revaz Chitidze said the commission was already set up and his deputy, Zviad Apkhazava, chairs the commission.

As for candidates, Lanchkhuti district MP, Temur Chkhaidze said he has selected a person for the position of district governor and he believes nobody will object to this candidature, “he was born in Lanchkhuti, to a good family. Now he lives in Tbilisi; he runs a business, has friends from post-soviet countries; he is the person who can start everything from a clean slate and do much good for the local people. I finally managed to convince him to accept our proposal. I rarely make mistakes when evaluating people so I think he will really do much good for Lanchkhuti.”

According to a reliable source of information, Chkhaidze spoke about businessman Zaza Urushadze. Reportedly, the Georgian Dream’s local office has its own candidate – their coordinator during elections Gela Pateishvili.

According to our information, aforementioned people will soon compete for commission and members of the Lanchkhuti municipal board will settle their fate.
