Prosecutor’s Office Released Statement on the Detention of the National Movement’s Activists

December 7, 2012

Law enforcement officers arrested activists of the National Movement – Jangir Mchedlishvili, chief specialist at the social service of Eredvi municipality, Gogita Gochashvili, head of financial-budget department and head of social service Levan Maisuradze at the same municipality. The chief prosecutor’s office released statement about it.

According to their statement, those people were arrested under the charge of persecution of people and hooliganism; Besik Kakhniashvili is sought.

“Investigation concluded that on September 16, 2012 residents of Ditsi village in Gori district – Z.N. Z.M and S.M were standing in the street. At about 6:00 pm a car VAZ 21099 pulled down near them; drunken activists of the National Movement – Besik Kakhniashvili, chief specialist of Eredvi municipality, Jangir Mchedlishvili, chief specialist of the social service, head of financial-budget department Gogita Gochashvili and head of social service Levan Maisuradze - were sitting in it. They got off the car and demanded Z.N. to take of shoes and step over the Georgian Dream’s t-shirt. When he refused, the people from the car insulted Z.N and then tried to physically assault him. Z.N managed to escape and hid behind the shop nearby. Kakhniashvili, Mchedlishvili, Gochashvili and Maisuradze cynically shouted at villagers, insulted them because they had participated in the Coalition’s assembly three days before. The harassers noticed another person dressed in Georgian Dream’s t-shirt and shouted “here is one more dishonest person.” They cursed, beat and seriously injured him. People, who ran out of houses, tried to calm down the activists of the National Movement and take the victim away. However, Kakhniashvili, Mchedlishvili, Gochashvili and Maisuradze continued insulting and beating people who went out of houses – Z.V, his son B.V, his wife K.M and their guests Kh.S. and G.S. The harassers smashed the window-glass of Kh.S.’s car standing nearby; they tried to break the gate of the house and continued cursing and shouting. At that moment, two-year-old child was at home and she started screaming at the noise. People were panicked. Finally, people locked in the house called people, informed them about the incident and asked for help. When police arrived the situation was already resolved,” the statement reads.
