Prosecutor’s Office Summoned Vani Majoritarian MP to Interrogation

December 12, 2012
Chief prosecutor’s office stated that on December 13 they summoned Vani majoritarian MP from the National Movement Paata Lezhava to be interrogated as a witness for the criminal case on physical assault of a businessman.

The case is about an incident which occurred in the UNM’s Vani district office on September 23 when businessman Mamuka Sharashenidze was beaten because he “publicly criticized and made strict evaluation about famous scandalous video-footage of the prison”; his ribs were broken and received less grave injury.

“Investigation materials prove that MP Paata Lezhava was at the scene of incident too; victim Mamuka Sharashenidze said the MP had invited him to the party’s office and then he supervised his physical assault,” the prosecutor’s statement reads.

On December 12, prosecutor’s office reported that Vani district majoritarian MP was summoned to the Iemreti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti regional department of the MIA in connection with the ongoing probe into criminal case against MP Paata Lezhava and chairman of the Vani municipal board Davit Kakabadze.

Paata Lezhava has been member of the last three convocations of parliament and is protected by MP’s immunity.

According to the parliament’s regulations, “MP can be detained or arrested, his/her house, car, working place or she/he personally can be searched only based on the parliament’s notification.”
