Employees of Rustavi 2 Broadcasting Company to Address Chief Prosecutor’s Office

December 20, 2012
Employees of Rustavi 2 Broadcasting Company are going to address the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance and Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia to release the Director General of the TV-channel before the investigation is over and not to make a plea for a pre-trial detention as a preventive measure.

"Otherwise, the detention of the director general of Rustavi 2 will be considered as an attempt to hamper the work of the TV-channel and put pressure on it. We address relevant State agencies to allow the director general of the TV-company to continue his work," reads the statement.

Nika Gvaramia, formerly the Minister of Justice as well as the Minister of Education was detained on December 19  under the charges of forging documents. According to the Investigation Service of the Ministry of Finance Gvaramia’s detention has got no links with his work at the TV company. The case touches upon the developments of summer 2012. According the investigation Gvaramia was taking part in the deal according to which the Inter RAO-owned companies were to avert tax probe in exchange for the bribe. At the time Gvaramia was not holding any official position.
