Signatures Collected with the Request of President’s Resignation

December 21, 2012

“President of Georgia shall resign!”- under this slogan nongovernmental organization Union for Civil Rights set up tents in the central boulevard of Kutaisi on December 17. Organization members started collection of signatures with the request of the president’s resignation.

“In 2004 Georgian population elected Mikheil Saakashvili to be the president of Georgia. In the next presidential elections, he maintained authority through fabricated ballot papers. So, as he no longer is the elected president of the Georgian population, he must resign,” the demonstration participants claimed.

Demonstrations are held in Tbilisi, Martvili and Bagdati too and as organizers said they have already collected about 200 000 signatures throughout the day.

On December 19, demonstration participants gathered in front of the Parliament of Georgia with the request of the president’s resignation. Finally, they intend to send the signatures to the World Congress.
