Davit Usupashvili: “President Pardoned Pedophile Himself”

January 9, 2013
At the press-conference summarizing the activities of the last year, chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Davit Usupashvili responded to the president’s speech where the latter blamed the new government and parliament in the attempt to release pedophiles and spies. The president vetoed the parliament’s law on amnesty and said he would not sign the law which releases spies and pedophiles from prisons.

At the press-conference Davit Usupashvili presented documents which proved that President had pardoned people judged for the aforementioned crimes.

“Unpleasant rumors spread as if we release pedophiles, etc. It is purposeful PR campaign aiming at subduing the problem of political prisoners’ release. There is G. Ch. in the data base of people pardoned by president on December 13 and this person was convicted for Article 141, which punishes perversion with juveniles,” said Usupashvili.

Parliament’s chairman ironically noted that whilst president is authorized to pardon a person convicted for particular crime, the parliament does not have similar authority.

Usupashvili added that some of pardoned prisoners, who were sentenced to imprisonment to 2023.
