After Elections New Fractions Created at Lanchkhuti Municipal Board

January 11, 2013

There were two fractions at Lanchkhuti municipal board until now – National Movement and Georgian Dream- Democratic Lanchkhuti; now, two more fractions “Majoritarians” and “Lanchkhuti of Future” were set up at the municipal board; their members were members of the fraction National Movement.

14 members left fraction National Movement; seven of them joined Majoritarians and another seven joined the Lanchkhuti of Future. Davit Chkhaidze chairs Majoritarians and Giorgi Chakhvadze – Lanchkhuti of Future.

Does it mean that National Movement fell apart in Lanchkhuti? What caused creation of new two fractions at municipal board? We asked chairman of the municipal board Revaz Chitidze, who has joined fraction Majoritarians after quitting the National Movement fraction.

“It is natural and normal when several fractions are functioning at the municipal board. I, as a majoritiarian member of the board, decided to join the fraction Majoritarians.  It is ordinary process. Generally, people with common idea unify in one fraction. Fraction Majoritarians was set up because we want to protect our positions and interests inside separate fraction. As for fraction National Movement, it still continues working with 6 members in it. Gela Kuridze will be its new chairman.”

Do the members of new fractions remain members of the National Movement? - we asked deputy chair of the municipal board Zviad Apkhazava. “Fraction National Movement did not have mandated members in Lanchkhuti. They simply supported the National Movement and now they moved to another fraction. I cannot tell you whether they still support the UNM or not,” said Apkhazava.
