“We Were Called and Told - New Government Came and You Should Leave”

January 14, 2013

Former attorneys of territorial entities in Mtskheta district told ICMM that new district governor had requested them to write resignation applications and all 23 attorneys quitted jobs.

“I left job based on my personal application. The contract had not expired but I had no other way; everybody left job in the same way,” former attorney of Dzalisi village territorial entity Elvan Biatashvili told ICMM.

“I wrote resignation application on December 7 and left job. I did not have contract; they appointed me based on the decree. Everybody left jobs… everyone was sacked,” said former attorney of Ksani village territorial entity Davit Khizanishvili.

“They fired everybody and how could I stay there? I resigned based on my application but everybody knows what happened in fact. All 23 attorneys were called and directly told since the new government had come to office, we had to quit. I did not write the application; I was compelled to write it,” said Giorgi Tsondeli, former attorney of Vaziani village territorial entity.

“I was compelled to quit job and I wrote resignation application in the middle of December. My contract was valid before January 1, 2013. But, they fired me early in term. They said the government had changed and we had to leave,” said Nugzar Tsamalashvili, former attorney of Dzegvi territorial entity.

Givi Giutashvili, who became Mtskheta district governor after parliamentary elections of October 1, 2012, denies information about oppression on attorneys. He said they had interviewed villagers and new attorneys were appointed in accordance to public opinion. The new attorneys were Georgian Dream’s activists.
