Giorgi Barateli’s Lawyer Blames Prison Administration in Provocation

January 21, 2013

Mamuka Nozadze, lawyer of Giorgi Barateli, convicted for the murder of Guram Sharadze, blamed Gldani prison administration in provocation.

The lawyer told journalists that on January 17, Barateli was accused of having prohibited subject, so-called pin in prison.

Nozadze said prison administration had provoked Barateli and they had planted the so-called pin on him but none of the inmates confirmed that Barateli had any prohibited subject in prison.

The lawyer said Giorgi Barateli was searched every day and naturally, if he had anything illegal, the administration would have exposed it and accused him for it.

Mamuka Nozadze said provocations against Giorgi Barateli intensified after the government changed in the country and he started complaining about arbitrary detention. Besides, Barateli declared that he had not murdered Guram Sharadze.

The lawyer said the purpose of the provocation was to make Giorgi Barateli keep silence.

The lawyer clarified that Giorgi Barateli is sentenced to the imprisonment for twenty years and 6 months. Court imposed new preventive measure on him for the new accusation. If the court finds him guilty, years will be added to his imprisonment term.

Nozadze said Giorgi Barateli was charged under Article 378 that is storage of a prohibited subject that is punishable by imprisonment up to three years.
