Victim of Natural Disaster Compensated with 12 lari

January 24, 2013

Archil Aladashvili, resident of Kondoli village in Telavi district, who was victimized by the natural disaster on July 19, 2012, was compensated with 12 lari [approx. 8 USD] at Cartu Bank. His son Merab Aladashvili said the natural disaster damaged 17 sq. meters of vineyard, 20 sq. meters of vegetable-garden and 40 sq. meters of corn-field.

“My father went to the bank and received 12 lari there. Having come home, he drank a lot of medicines because he felt himself insulted. We are not arguing about the money; we are concerned with the fact that they made fun of our family. The commission recorded that our vine-yard, vegetable-garden and corn-field were damaged. Let the commission come and repeatedly examine our gardens. Many families have faced this problem in this village; some of them were not inserted on the compensation list at all,” Merab Aladashvili told ICK.

Nino Rostomashvili from Kondoli village also complains about incorrect distribution of compensation sums.

“Everything shall be checked on the place and they should compensate only those people who was really damaged; there are some people, who managed to sell grapes of 4 000 lari last autumn and now they additionally received compensations of 8 000 lari. It is not lawful. If a person, who sold grape of 42 000 lari, receives compensation, why should not I take at least 200 lari? The money was not distributed on every victim family. It will make people rebel. I am not on the list and they did not even give me 200 lari. Roof of my house was damaged; window glasses were broken, water leaks into the house, vegetables damaged in the garden and shall I eat soil now?” Nino Rostomashvili wonders.

Distribution of compensation on the victims of natural disaster started on January 23. People can get money at Telavi office of the Cartu Bank. According to the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure, there are about 29 000 beneficiaries on the list. The Ministry has published the list of only 2 768 beneficiaries. The victims, who were not inserted on the list, held assemblies in different villages of Kakheti. People, victimized as a result of heavy hail of May 2012, are not in the list either; thought they took loans at banks and might remain without home unless they pay debts.
