Chairman of Lanchkhuti municipal board Revaz Chitidze made statement about resignation at the session of the municipal board’s bureau. Rumors about oppression on Chitidze have been spread for a long time. However, Chitidze claims he had individually made the decision. Former chairman of the municipal board categorically denies information about psychological and other oppression on him.

Chitidze told humanrights.ge that it was his personal decision:

“I made this decision personally because I think I have exhausted my abilities. As for oppression, I would like to assure you that I have not been oppressed at all,” said Chitidze.

Two people are candidates to replace Chitidze: former member of the fraction National Movement Amiran Gigineishvili and Davit Tsuladze, member of the political party Free Democrats (member of the Coalition Georgian Dream); before elections the latter was leader of the local office of the New Rights.

Amiran Gigineishvili told us that he has relevant experience and believes that he would implement duties of the board chairman properly.

“Representatives of the Coalition Georgian Dream met us and said they wanted to elect Davit Tsuladze for the position of board chairman and Zaza Urushadze as district governor. As soon as Rezo Chitidze resigned, I applied to the municipal board that I wanted to take part in the competition because I had experience in this field. I am expert of the Council of Europe in self-governmental issues. I think, I have chance to become chairman of the municipal board and I hope the board members will vote for me.”

As for Davit Tsuladze, he openly declared that he wants to become chairman of the Lachkhuti municipal board.

“Yes, I wish to become the chairman of the municipal board. I think board members will support my candidature. Our MP is informed about it and he knows about my decision.”

Deputy Chairman of the municipal board Zviad Apkhazava implements duties of the chairman at present.
