Penitentiary Ministry Published Statistics of Amnestied People

Ministry of Corrections and Legal Assistance of Georgia published statistics on amnestied accused/convicted people released from detention and penitentiary establishments on February 4.

According to the Ministry, in accordance to the Law of Georgia on Amnesty 151 accused/convicted people were released from penitentiary establishments on that day.

By February 4, 2012, as a result of the amnesty 5 869 accused/convicted people left penitentiary establishments throughout Georgia; among them were 175 political prisoners, 232 female prisoners (2 of them from Prison # 2, 3 from Prison # 3 and 227 from prison # 5) and 15 male juveniles left prison (1 from prison # 2, 1 from Prison # 8, 6 from Prison # 11, 6 from Prison # 17 and 1 from Prison # 18).

At the same time, according to the Ministry, court decisions on amnesty are actively sent to the Probation National Agency. The Probation Bureaus have received 269 court judgments so far and 83 people were discharged from conditional sentence; 186 of them had reduced their conditional sentences.

263 men, 6 women and 1 juvenile were amnestied on February 4.

Probation bureaus actively continue working in order to operatively deliver court judgments to amnestied probationers.
