March 1, 2013
Merab Gogoberidze, Head of the NGO Center against Corruption states that he was insulted verbally and physically by the former Head of Achara Patrol Police. Gogoberidze has already testified to the law enforcement officers and requests safety warrants from them.

”On February 18, in Batumi, on street of King Parnavaz, Joni Bakuridze stopped his car, got out from   and attacked me. Heverbally assaulted and hit me. Then he threatened me and said that  if I told his name and surname and told that he was participating in accident in connection with Batumi University on November 8 of 2007, he would revenge against me and my family”.

Joni Bakuridze does not deny the fact of meeting with Gogoberidze, but he denies physical abuse and says that he requested Gogoberidze to apologize as he had not been in the place of accident on November 8: “I met him in the street and said why he was telling lies. I am abused. He made his complaint to the Court and I was mentioned in it”.

On November 8th of 2007, students of Batumi State University were sacked in their lecture-halls. Tear-gas was exhaled during the lectures and special detachment entered the room. Some poisoned and whining students were taken out from the University building by 03. Merab Gogoberidze was arrested near the Univerity.

Investigation is underway in Adjara Office of Prosecutor about the fact occurred in Batumi University on November 8th of 2007.
