GYLA Representatives Blame Head of Adjara Main Department of the MIA in Their Physical Assault

March 30, 2013

An incident occurred between three representatives of the Batumi office of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association and head of Adjara Main Department of MIA Valeri Telia.

Lawyer Giorgi Khimshiashvili of the GYLA said head of Adjara Police Department insulted them and threw cig-end in their direction. “He tore our driver’s sweater and threw cig-end at us. We reported to the relevant institution about this incident. It is insulting when chief police officer of the region acts in this way. Moreover, when the law and his position obliges him to be patient,” Khimshiashvili said.

Driver of the GYLA’s Batumi office Roin Partenadze said the chief police officer tried to push him into the car and tore his sweater during incident.

Head of Adjara Main Department of MIA Valeri Telia denies the allegation and claims it is provocation.

As a result of this incident, Roin Partenadze was fined under Article 125 and 116 of the Administrative Code of Georgia. He was charged for the violation of maneuverability and being drunk when driving. Partenadze intends to appeal the fine.
