Melor Vachnadze: “Garibashvili makes me pay fee for living in Georgia”

April 4, 2013

On March 29, Gurjaani district court found former political prisoner Melor Vachnadze guilty under Administrative Law and fined with 400 lari. He was charged under Article 173 that envisages 90-day imprisonment or 400 lari fine.

In the evening of March 28, Vachnadze was arrested in Baisubani village of Lagodekhi district. District chief police officer Giorgi Klimiashvili attended this fact and later stated at the trial that Vachnadze was too aggressive towards him and other police officers; he was cursing them and did not obey their demands.

Vachnadze denied the accusation and said it was preliminarily staged provocation and it was connected with Garibashvili’s March 14statement.

“They have imposed almost 2000 lari on me for the last two weeks. Apparently, Garibashvili makes me pay a fee for living in Georgia,” Vachnadze said.

On March 14, Irakli Garibashvili said he did not support the idea to release Melor Vachnadze from prison under bail of 100 lari after the incidents of February 8.
