Tbilisi City Court Reinstates GPB’s Former Director General to Former Position

April 15, 2013

Tbilisi City Court has granted the complaint lodged by Giorgi Baratashvili, former Director General of the Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB), hence the decision issued by the GPB Board of Trustees on his dismissal was declared void, having ultimately reinstated him to the former position.

The court also imposed the Public Broadcaster to compensate him the money Baratashvili would have received as a salary from March 4 up to the court’ final judgment.

The resolute part of the court’s decision shall be announced within 30 days. Afterwards the parties will be able to appeal the court’s decision within 14 days.

The GPB Board of Trustees dismissed Giorgi Baratashvili on March 4, 2013 from the position of GPB’s Director General, citing the crisis the channel faces as a motive, that Baratashvili had been unable to deal with. Giorgi Bakradze has been the acting Director General of the broadcaster.

Lawyer Natia Kapanadze of the Georgian Young Lawyers Association (GYLA) has been pleading for Baratashvili at court.
