Medical Expert Questioned at Tengiz Gunava’s Case

May 2, 2013

Salome Chkheidze

Expert of Levan Samkharauli National Forensic Medical Expertise Paata Jibladze was questioned about the episode where former head of MIA General Inspection Tengiz Gunava is accused of having wounded his driver Kakhaber Izoria.

Jibladze said that on November 21, 2012 he carried out medical expertise on Kakhaber Izoria who had a trace of wound on his right leg.

“Having examined the person, I requested medical documents but Izoria did not have them. When I asked him when he was wounded, he said had heard a gunshot at Zugdidi Railway Station on April 1, 2012 and then felt pain in the leg. He arrived at Gori Military Hospital to take medical treatment but doctors did not register documents there. My expertise conclusion states that cicatrices on Izoria’s leg are from gunshot wound. Since the wound was old, I could not estimate the type of gun but expertise does not exclude possibility that it was caused by firearm,” the witness said.

Witnesses were questioned about other episode too. Employees of HR-Organizational Department of the MIA Otar Bazadze, Paata Elbakidze and Mikheil Amiranashvili were questioned about the accusation according to which Gunava had misappropriated 30 000 USD and three tones of fuel from the Ministry.

The witnesses stated that they had allocated the money and issued fuel coupons on Tengiz Gunava based on verbal instruction of their senior officials.

Acting head of Financial Unit of Patrol Police Department of the MIA Mikheil Amiranashvili he had applied to Eka Zguladze, former deputy minister of interior, to issue order to give fuel coupons to Gunava.

Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti Regional Governor is accused of abuse of power, misappropriation of other person’s property and premeditated damage of health.
