Human Rights Center expresses wish to work in Constitutional Commission

May 10, 2013

According to the statement of Chairman of Parliament of Georgia David Usupashvili, by May 2013, a constitutional commission is to  be established which will be composed of political party representatives, experts and NGOs.

Human Rights Center has the position about the optimal constitutional model that envisages a proper implementation of separation of powers and checks and balances principle in the Constitution, as well as a powerful parliament, accountable government and the President as arbiter who will ensure the functioning of state organs in accordance with the Constitution.

The main line for the Constitutional Commission while elaborating new amendments should be  observing the balance between the branches of authority.

Human Rights Center expresses wish to work in the Constitutional Commission and requests the Parliament to involve a representative of  Human Rights Center as a member of the commission.
