Former First Deputy Interior Minister to be Released for Bail

15 May Tbilisi City Court did not satisfy the appeal of the Prosecutor’s Office on imprisonment of the First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Gela Khvedelidze.  The accused has been obliged to pay bail of GEL 5000.

According to the information posted on the Tbilisi City Court website Gela Khvedelidze will be released from prison upon full payment of the bail.

Court clarifies that when deciding upon bail the Court has considered the circumstance that the accused has been accused of relatively less heavy crime, he has not been tried before and additionally “and the Prosecutor’s Office has not evidenced the necessity for imprisonment.”
At 12 May briefing Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia Irakli Garibashvili announced Gela Gvedelidze’s detainment.  According to the Minister, Khvedelidze has been reproved of circulating by Internet the hidden video-footage of private life of Georgian journalist.

Gariobashvili stressed that security of these and other footages recorded during previous government was the responsibility of Khvedelidze along with other officials.
