Last week, central media sources reported about rapidly resolved criminal case in Rustavi. Our colleagues from TV-Channels reported that an attempt of shop-lifting was combated in Davit Gareji Street in Rustavi. According to the spread information, one of the robbers and a citizen in the shop were wounded.

KKPRESS got interested how the citizen was injured during the incident.

The wounded person and shop-assistant recalled that robbers did not have firearms but had knives. The victimized person said, who will not be able to work at least during a month and half, said the police officers opened fire without warning.

Employee of the market Gareji recalled the incident and wounding of his relative Armiran Shukakidze.

“On April 28, at about 9:00 pm, two young men entered the shop and tried to rob us under threat of knife. My son-in-law accidentally witnessed the fact and tried to grab knives from them. Patrol police team also arrived at the place, who opened the fire and wounded the robber and my son-in-law,” Svetlana Kvachova told the KKPRESS.

“That evening, my wife and I were standing near the shop and heard screaming; we noticed people with knife in the shop. I tried to resist them but soon patrol police officers arrived and they shot three times without warning. One bullet was shot in the robber and two in my both legs. I will have to take several months medical treatment and as I was told the state will cover my treatment expenses,” Shukakidze said and added that patrol police officers might have assumed him to be a robber too.

Ministry of Internal Affairs also released information about the incident though it did not contain information about wounded Amiran Shukakidze at all.

Detainees have assaulted the supermarket “Gareji” located in Rustavi on Davit-gareji Street and demanded cash from the salesman under the pressure of the knife. Law enforcers managed to detain two of them on the place of crime, while others were detained in several minutes after the crime took place. During the detention Giorgi V. was wounded in leg area while offering resistance to the police. Investigation regarding the fact is in progress under the article 179, II part, sub-paragraph A and B of the Criminal Code of Georgia. The committed crime envisages from 6 to 15 years of imprisonment,” the statement reads.

Despite many attempts of the KKPress, it was impossible to get additional information about the fact from the MIA.
