Trial on Former Head of Kakheti CSD Laliashvili

On May 14, next trial on Zurab Laliashvili and Davit Lortkipanidze’s case, former head and deputy head of Kakheti office of the Constitutional Security Department, was held at Telavi district court. Former officer of the CSD Giorgi Giorgelashvili was questioned at the trial. He confirmed that in 2011 businessman Aleksandre Megutnishvili really bought luxurious cars for his senior officials. He also recalled that Megutnishvili gave him certain amount of money which he had handed to Laliashvili at the office.

Davit Lortkipanidze, brother of former deputy of minister of internal affairs Gia Lortkipanidze, was detained in December of 2012 for the abuse of his professional power. According to the MIA, Davit Lortkipanidze together with Zurab Laliashvili  made different kind of pressures on businessman Aleksandre Megutnishvili living in Tsinandali, as a result of what Megutnishvili bought “Toyota Land Cruiser 200” and two “Toyota Camry” for CSD of MIA in March of 2011. Prosecutor charged Lortkipanidze and Laliashvili of the crime punishable under Article 333 Part III b of the Criminal Code of Georgia that is abuse of power – punishable by imprisonment from 5 to 8 years. Davit Lortkipanidze pleaded guilty but Zurab Laliashvili is sought according to official information.

Next trial on the case will be held at 12:00 pm on May 22, 2013.
