Human Rights Center calls upon the government of Georgia and international organizations to get interested in the disappearance of Magamed Magamedov. The latter arrived in Georgia in 2012 from Dagestan and requested political shelter here. He was registered in Georgia as asylum-seeker. In 2013 Magamedov disappeared from Tbilisi and nothing has been known about his whereabouts so far. Human Rights Center held a press-conference about the issue and Magamedov’s lawyer Nino Andriashvili, head of Legal Aid Center at HRC, informed society about the situation about Magamedov’s case. The mother of the disappeared person also attended the press-conference.

Magamed Magamedov entered Georgian territory in May of 2012 via Dagestan. Counter-Terrorist Agency of the MIA had information about his illegal crossing of the border. On December 26, 2012 Magamed Magamedov appealed to the Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation and requested shelter in Georgia because he was persecuted in Russia on religious grounds.

Magamedov’s wife Kaliman Bagdan noted that her husband last left home at about 12:40 pm on April 19, 2013 to attend religious service together with his friends.

Head of Human Rights Center Aleko Tskitishvili said that according to one of the versions law enforcement bodies assigned Magamedov to Russian government.

Lawyer Nino Andriashvili said that investigation into Magamedov’s case is prolonged.

“Prosecutor’s Office periodically replies to us that investigation is underway. However, it is fact that the investigation is very prolonged,” Nino Andriashvili said.
