No to Violence – Assembly in Batumi

On May 18, in Batumi people condemned violence used during the rally dedicated to the International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia in Tbilisi. Participants read those articles of the Constitution of Georgia which guarantees human rights and freedom of expression.

Natia Apkhazava, nongovernmental organization Civil Society Institute: “Constitution of Georgia guarantees right to assembly and manifestation, freedom of speech and expression and state shall develop mechanisms to ensure realization of these rights by citizens.”

Giorgi Katamadze from Batumi: “Constitution is the major law in this country and we pay taxes to the state in order to protect the rights guaranteed by the Constitution.”

In parallel to the assembly, the scenes from the May 17 events in Tbilisi were shown on large screen.
