Appeal of the Charter of Journalistic Ethics to Interior Ministry’s PR Service

June 21, 2013

The Georgian Charter of Journalistic Ethics Appeals the PR Service of the Ministry of the Interior “to be more careful and moderate at the relationship with both the media and non-governmental sector.”

This letter is the Charter’s response to the discontent of Nino Giorgobiani, Head of the PR Service of the Ministry of the Interior, which was entailed by the statement made by the Journalistic Ethics Charter ,as well as the comments of its member journalists, that it would be possible to identify persons featured on the video of torturing, shown at the Ministry of Interior.

According to the Charter’s statement, the reason of the above discontent of the Head of the PR Service of the Ministry, which she expressed on a social network, was overtly expressed in regard to the Editor of the Netgazeti Nestan Tsetskhladze, whose professionalism has been questioned by this remark.

In the meantime, the Charter stresses, Nino Giorgobiani as well expressed complaints for the statement of the Charter, in her telephone conversation with the Executive Director of the Organization.

“The high-ranking official of the Ministry of the Interior have inquired after the information being outside her scope of competence; the information which is constituent part of the organization’s internal activity”- read the application.
