Meeting Concerning Operation of the Disability Rights Center

On June 10, 2013 Ucha Nanuashvili, the Public Defender of Georgia held a working coordination meeting with donor organizations, concerning priorities, cooperation and partnership. 
  
Opening remarks were made by Ucha Nanuashvili, the Public Defender of Georgia and Ketevan Khutsishvili, Director of Open society Georgia Foundation. 
  
The Head of the Disability Rights Center of the Public Defender presented the annual report, which covers recommendations of the center for the legislative and executive branches of government to the representatives of donor organizations.   
  
Special emphasis is made on recommendation to ratify the December 13, 2006 Unites Nations Convection on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.   
  
Presentation also covered recommendations fulfillment of which is important to enable persons with disabilities to live independently. 
  
The Head of the Disability Rights Center of the Public Defender introduced the future plans of operation of the centre to the attending guests. Strategy of the center and elaboration of a 3-year-plan were also discussed along with empowerment of regional offices in this regard. It is noteworthy that in case of adequate support the center is planning legislation analyses in regards to rights of the elderly and empowerment of the measures for protection of rights of the elderly, analysis of conditions of the soldiers with disabilities that have received these injuries in Georgian and Afganistan wargoings and empowering of educational activities concerning persons with disabilities in general.     
  
Public Defender presented to the current occupation and priorities of the centre to the attending guests and answered their questions.
