Chief Prosecutor’s Office Intends to Extradite Davit Chkhitunidze to Georgia

Chief Prosecutor’s Office is preparing documentations for the extradition of Davit Chkhitunidze to Georgia.

Prosecutor’s Office spread statement which reads. “In the frame of the ongoing investigation into the crime committed against Sandro Girgvliani, on July 1, 2013 Tbilisi Prosecutor’s Office imposed charge on Davit Chkhitunidze (former deputy head of first unit of Constitutional Security Department of MIA and then former deputy head of General Inspection of the Ministry of Justice) under Article 333 of the Criminal Code of Georgia (exceeding official powers). 

Based on the solicitation of the Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia, on August 9, 2013 Davit Chkhitunidze was declared internationally thought with the red circular of the International Police in order to arrest and extradite him to Georgia. 

Based on the international search declared by the Georgian side, on August 13, 2013 law enforcement bodies of Greek Republic arrested D. Chkhitunidze in the Athens Airport at 14:30 pm (local time), who tried to cross the border to travel to Istanbul. On August 14, Athens Court imposed extradition imprisonment on D. Chkhitunidze.

Currently, Chief Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia is preparing documentation for the extradition of Davit Chkhitunia to Georgia and it will be delivered to competent institutions of Greek Republic within the terms estimated by European Convention on Extradition of 1957.
