CEC Rejected Referendum Issue on Snap Parliamentary Elections

“Central Election Commission rejected the referendum issue on holding snap parliamentary elections,” the information published on the CEC website reads.

According to the information, the Commission rejected the registration of the initiative group consisting of Nana Kakabadze, Tatiana Khokhiashvili, Avtandil Rekhviashvili, Gela Nikolaishvili and Gia Tabliashvili and their suggested referendum question: “ Would you agree or not to hold early Parliamentary Elections in 2014” .

Several days ago Member of the Initiative Group Gela Nikolaishvili told Intepresnews that reason of requesting snap parliamentary elections was “abnormal and extraordinary environment of the” parliamentary elections of October 2012.

“Of course, October Parliamentary Elections was a huge victory of Georgian people but it was not held in normal environment. People, who voted either for Georgian Dream or for National Movement, did not realize why they did it. Those, who voted for GD, believed that if UNM had won, it would be disaster for them- they would be arrested or die. Voters for UNM had same feelings. Moreover, there were people who voted because of fear or bribery. Thus, today we have different reality and people will not vote for political parties because of fear and self-securing. If parliamentary elections are held in normal and ordinary situation, it will be adequately reflected in the new parliament,” Nikolaishvili said.
