Municipal Boards Prohibited to Amend Budgets Before Elections Are Over

August 26, 2013
Gori municipal board introduced final amendments to the local budget to fund infrastructural activities in the district. In accordance to the election law, municipal boards are prohibited to amend budgets and allocate additional funds from August 27 until the sum up of the election results.

Chairman of the municipal board Davit Razmadze said the municipal board follows the law and additional funds will not be allocated from the local budget for social and infrastructural projects.

The municipal board does not breach the law but it is noteworthy that infrastructural projects will be implemented in Gori and Gori district in the pre-election period – some streets are being paved with asphalt in Gori; Razmadze said that four new infrastructural projects are about to launch in Gori in parallel to already ongoing projects.

We asked whether those activities will be perceived as a PR campaign for the presidential candidate of the ruling party and Razmadze replied:

“During the pre-election period, the self-governmental bodies will neither support nor hinder the pre-election campaigns of any candidate; but since it is election period, we cannot be paralyzed; we do our best to meet the law requirements,” Razmadze said.
