Chairman of Adjara Supreme Council Might Be Fined for Driving a Car in Boulevard without Permission

August 30, 2013
Maka Malakmadze, Adjara

On August 25, Chairman of Adjara Supreme Council Avtandil Beridze drove around the Batumi Boulevard by his service car. However, a person can drive a car in the boulevard territory based on special permit. The Boulevard administration stated that they had not issued relevant permit on Beridze’s car.

Black Prado’s Jeep with state number SCA 041 was detected in Boulevard territory at about 9:00 pm. It was parked nearby the summer theatre. There is a photo-footage to prove it; Davit Robakidze, member of Batumi office of the Labor Party, in social network.

Humanrights.ge contacted Boulevard administration and chief engineer Irakli Kodia said special permit on moving around the boulevard territory was not issued on Prado’s Jeep with state number SCA 041. “We did not issue a permit on this car. If cars move around the boulevard without permission, we report to the police about it and cars are taken to police office; however we did not notice any car driving in the area without permission on that day.”

Human Rights Center called head of public and media relation department of the Adjara Supreme Council Marina Kupreishvili several times to find out why the leader of the Adjara legislative body drove in the Batumi Boulevard without permission. First time, on August 27, Kupreishvili said the chairman was at the session and would send answers to our questions later. Our second call today irritated Kupreishvili. “I know who spread those photos and what he wants… maybe he [Beridze] had some business to get there. How can you get in touch with Mr. Beridze while I cannot meet him either and have more significant affairs with him?” Kupreishvili said and cut off the line.
