Assistant Speaks about Citizen’s Physical Assault by Council Member

September 2, 2013

Maka Malakmadze, Adjara

Sopo Kobaladze, former assistant to the member of Adjara Supreme Council Medea Vasadze, said that the Council Member physically assaulted a citizen. Kobaladze claims she personally witnessed the incident.

Kobaladze is not going to publicly speak about the incident details before she gives testimony to the prosecutor’s office but confessed that her previous testimony was dictated by Vasadze.

“As I was under influence of Medea Vasadze, I gave false testimony to the investigation and representative of the Public Defender; I am sorry for that and feel responsibility for my behavior. Before interrogation, Ms. Medea told me that representative of the prosecutor’s office wanted to question me and she gave me the text what I had to tell to the investigator. Of course the text did not reflect the truth and I got worried and astonished. Vasadze aggressively told me not to worry because I would be interrogated in her working room instead police office,” Kobaladze recalled and added that prosecutor Revaz Jashi really questioned her in her working room.

On August 7, Kobaladze was fired and she associates this fact with the physical assault of the citizen. “After they learned that I was going to publicly say the truth, they started administrative processing. The reason of my resignation is clarified in the document as follows: “For not having implemented her duties, for coerce violation of responsibilities, for dishonest behavior aiming at discrediting the state political official and state institution [I was dismissed],” the former employee of the Adjara Supreme Council said.

Member of Adjara Supreme Council Medea Vasadze confirmed that she had fired Sopo Kobaladze with regard to Diana Diasamidze’s case. The Council Member said that her assistant tried to blackmail her with the fact and she could not forgive it. As for the information about the physical assault of a citizen, Vasadze categorically denied it.

“I have not done anything wrong to her. I did not even insult her. Just the opposite, I carefully listened to her complaints that sounded too ungrounded,” Vasadze said.

Diana Diasamidze alleged that Council Member Vasadze had beaten her in her working room. Disamaidze was taken to Batumi Central Hospital by ambulance from the office of the Supreme Council. Neuro-surgeon Merab Imnadze noted that the patient had a bruise on her right arm.

The incident occurred on June 24. The citizen requested Vasadze to give a copy of the agreement, based on which Supreme Council had assigned a bicycle to her. Diasamidze clarified that she had petitioned to the prime-minister of Georgia and requested financial support for medical treatment. She was promised with the aid but later Vasadze called her and gave her only a bicycle.

Kobaladze calls on the chief prosecutor of Georgia Archil Kbilashvili to investigate the case.
