Elimination of Files Showing Private Life Scheduled for September 5

September 4, 2013

The secret video-recordings of private life will be eliminated on September 5, at 3:00. The decision was made on September 2 at the meeting of the Ministry of Internal Affairs by the Commission set up with reference to the secret recordings.  Thus, according to the decision of the 9 member commission, the files will be eliminated in so called Module building, and journalists are supposed to attend the procedure.

The voting of September 2 was attended by all the Commission members- the Minister of Justice, Minister of the Interior, Prosecutor General, Inspector for Protection of Personal Data, representative of the court, Public Defender and three members of the civil sector.

FYI, on June 17, 2013 officers of the Ministry of Internal Affairs found in Samegrelo a cache of weapons and combat materials, where they as well discovered a great number of( 24 thousands) of secret video-recordings of torturing prisoners and private life related information. The civil sector demanded that the files were eliminated, and the EU Adviser Thomas Hammerberg suggested the same. However, the process of the elimination of the materials was procrastinated for some obscure reasons.
