Kareli district former interim governor intends to appeal the court. On September 9, at the press-conference in Gori Democracy Engagement Center, Emiko Peikrishvili announced his intention to appeal the court.

Peikrishvili told journalists that municipal board Chairman Paata Gviniashvili was summoned to state security service, was threatened and compelled to raise question of Peikrishvili’s dismissal at the board session. Peikrishvili requests annulment of the decision of Kareli municipal board on his dismissal and appointment of former police officer Zaza Guliashvili to his position.

“When chief police officer met me in my office and said that senior officials had decided to fire me, I asked him about the motive but he could not answer. I asked him to name the person, who requested my dismissal. He said it was Minister Garibashvili,” Peikrishvili said.

Former deputy head of Kareli police department and current interim governor of Kareli district Zaza Guliashvili denies having similar conversation with Peikrishvili. Municipal board chairman also denies Peikrishvili’s accusations and states that the court will decide whether the board passed illegal decision or not.

Ketevan Bebiashvili, chairwoman of the Gori office of the Georgian Young Lawyers’ Association represents Peikrishvili at the court. The lawyer said the municipal board breached the law because Peikrishvili was fired without any grounds and then elected a person without competition.

“He was illegally fired because the board had to announce competition for personnel changes; furthermore, there was a deputy district governor in Kareli district and he had to replace the interim governor on the place if the board had passed fair and unbiased decision. They must not have recruited a person from outside the district administration. Besides that, the municipal board did not clarify the motive of Peikrishvili’s dismissal,” Ketevan Bebiashvili of GYLA said.
