Presentation of the Project on Expanding Representation of Ombudsman’s Office Was Held in Gurjaani

On September 11, 2013, project “Expanding Representation of Office of Ombudsman of Georgia to Region of Kakheti by Appointing a Contact Person” was presented in Gurjaani. The project is implemented by Human Rights Center with financial assistance of Eurasian Partnership Foundation. The project aims to expend Public Defender’s representation in Kakheti region and preparation of different recommendations for the improvement of human rights situation in the region together with the Public Defender’s Central Office. 

Deputy Public Defender Paata Beltadze, representatives of the Eurasian Partnership Foundation, Human Rights Center and Kakheti region based nongovernmental organizations attended the presentation.

Deputy ombudsman Paata Beltadze introduced Public Defender’s contact person in Kakheti region Lia Khuroshvili and her assistant Natia Minashvili to the attendees and spoke about the project importance. He noted that presence of the contact person in the region will make Public Defender’s office activities more effective on the ground and increase access of local population to the information about human rights as well as response to violations.

Representatives of NGOs working in Kakheti region positively evaluated the appointment of the Public Defender’s contact person in the region and expressed wish to cooperate with her for the exchange of information about human rights violation and to jointly respond to them.
