Tbilisi City Court is discussing third criminal case against Bachana Akhalaia. Next trial was scheduled on September 17, where parties had to present their final speeches, but it was postponed due to absence of Prosecutor Revaz Nadoi. Judge decided the absence of the prosecutor was non-pardonable and imposed 300 lari fine on him.

Third criminal case against Bacho Akhalaia applies to the prison riot in 2006. At that time, Akhalaia was head of penitentiary department. Other accused in the same case are: Davit Chakua, Megis Kardava and Revaz Charbadze. They are accused of abuse of professional power (Article 333) and torture of imprisoned people (Article 1441). According to the investigation, illicit action of Akhalaia and senior officials of the administration caused active protest of prisoners that turned into a prison riot.

At the next trial on Bacho Akhalaia’s case the parties will present final speeches.
