On November 8, associated professor, member of the academic council and former member of the Republic Party Avtandil Gelagutashvili was elected to the position of the rector at the Telavi Iakob Gogebashvili State University. Before the session, several candidates cancelled their candidatures.

Elizbar Elilzbarashvili is one of them, who cancelled candidatures. “I had a long-term cooperation with Mr. Avto. I know his personal features very well; he is not a dictator by nature and we can perfectly cooperate with him; he had nice program and it can be implemented with our joint effort; for that reason I cancelled my candidature,” Elizbarashvili said and added that main challenge and problem of the university is to restore its damaged reputation and the new rector shall work in this direction.

“My appointment to the position was not surprise for me. I acknowledged what I was doing and had great expectations. I have been working for the University for a long time. I know all problems here and have very good team,” the new rector Gelagutashvili said.
