On November 12, 2013 in the frame of the project “Expanding Representation of Office Of Ombudsman to Kakheti Region”, Ombudsman’s contact person met representatives of the district administrations in Kakheti Region.

The project is implemented by the nongovernmental organization Human Rights Center with financial support of the Eurasian Partnership Foundation. The project aims to expand Public Defender’s representation to Kakheti region and draft different recommendations with regard to human rights situation in the region together with the Public Defender’s Office.

Representatives of Gurjaani, Telavi, Lagodekhi, Akhmeta, Dedoplistskaro and Kvareli district administrations attended the meeting.

Public Defender’s contact person Lia Khuroshvili presented the project to the society and spoke about its significance. She said the project promotes the role of Public Defender in Kakheti region. “During the implementation of this project, we feel high interest from the local population and many people apply to us for help. We agree most significant cases with the head office of Public Defender and then start field activities. The project will really support reinforcement of the Public Defender’s role in the region and inform population about the institute,” Lia Khuroshvili said.

The project lasts five months; it started on July 15 and will end on December 15, 2013.
