Bad Weather in Guria – Population Receives Electricity Supply with Delays

December 13, 2013

Nino Mshvidobadze, Guria

Bad weather and heavy snow fall left villages without electricity in Guria; problems were created on the motorways too. The snow cover reached 60 centimeters in Guria. Six villages were not supplied with electricity in Ozurgeti district. Head of Ozurgeti office of the Energo Pro Georgia Gia Nakaidze told humanrights.ge that villages Naruja, Laituri, Mtispiri, Askana, Pampaleti and Vakijvari and several villages in Chokhatauri district were not supplied with electricity.

Torrent channels cannot be cleaned because of snow and several streets got flooded in Ozurgeti. Snow hindered traffic movement in Ozurgeti-Lanchkhuti-Chokhatauri motorway and roads towards Nasakirali, Burnati, Nabeglavi, Atsana-Mamati and Jumati villages. Crocked grader created another problem for cleaning the roads.

Because of heavy snow, transport movement is also hindered; central roads of Chokhatuari small town are not cleaned yet; the same situation is in villages.

“We have serious problems; we cannot clean roads timely; apart to that we do not have good techniques; the government has already issued decree and we will purchase new grader soon but meanwhile we have to cope with the situation with our own resources; we will send fuel and technique to the villages,” Chokhatauri district interim governor Tamaz Jincharadze said.

Traffic movement is hindered in the villages of Mamati and Atsana in Lanchkhuti district; the road to Jikheti Monastery is also snowy. Lanchkhuti district governor Zaza Urushadze said the special techniques are mobilized to clean roads.

The information provided by the district administration reports that mountainous villages receive electricity supply without delay. Mamati village attorney Gela Pateishvili said the roads are being cleaned and technical brigade of the Energo Pro Georgia will start working there soon.

3 400 subscribers did not have electricity supply because of bad weather in Lanchkhuti district. Head of public relation department at the Energo-Pro Georgia Eka Uridia said electricity supply was already resumed for 2 000 subscribers. Technical brigade has gone to the problematic places and restoration activities are underway.
