New Regional Governor Intends Personnel Changes in Guria

December 23, 2013

Nino Mshvidobadze, Guria

New regional governor in Guria Giorgi Chkhaidze officially started implementation of his duties on December 16. On the first day, Chkhaidze met his colleagues. Initially he met employees of the Lanchkhuti district administration, then of Chokhatauri district administration and finally the heads of services at the regional administration. The regional governor said reorganization will be carried out in the regional and district administrations.

Chkhaidze said he will select employees according to their qualifications and not political affiliation. Reportedly, Chkhaidze has already selected his deputies – Merab Chanukvadze (Ozurgeti), Mamuka Dolidze (Chokhatauri) and Revaz Chitidze (Lanchkhuti).

Despite spread information, Chitidze categorically denied the information with humanrights.ge though he is Chkhaidze’s childhood friend. “I am Giorgi Chkhaidze’s friend but it does not mean that I will become his deputy. I am chairman of a fraction in Lanchkhuti municipal board and am not going to move anywhere from Lanchkhuti.”

As for Mamuka Dolidze, he was Chokhatauri district governor. Regional governor is saying he has heard about Dolidze though neither confirmed nor denied information about his possible appointment to the deputy regional governor’s position.

Merab Chanukvadze is brother of Shota Chanukvadze, former head of Guria Main Department of MIA and current senior official at the MIA.
