Public Defender Responds to the Situation at the Kutaisi Shelter for Homeless

January 13, 2014

On January 9, 2014, representatives of Public Defender visited the shelter that has been opened for homeless in Kutaisi. At the moment the shelter is hosting 4 beneficiaries. 2 tents have been put up for the homeless.

According to the beneficiaries, several individuals have abandoned the shelter due to unbearable conditions.

Examination of the shelter by the representatives of Public Defender revealed that the beneficiaries currently staying at the shelter have to live in unsanitary conditions; they have not been provided with articles of prime necessity (spoons, forks, plates); water leaks in during rain.

The shelter has been set up by Kutaisi City Hall based on the initiative of the Government of Georgia; therefore Public Defender calls upon Kutaisi City Hall to pay more regards to ensuring adequate conditions at the shelter.
