Although term for the removal of election posters in accordance to the Article 46 Paragraph VIII of the Election Code of Georgia, you can still see election posters from the 2013 Presidential Elections in Lanchkhuti.

The Code obliges election subjects to remove election posters within 15 days after election results are officially announced; otherwise the subject will be held responsible for the action in accordance to the Georgian law.

Humanrights.ge contacted leaders of the local offices of political parties to find out why their election posters were not removed yet.

Representatives of the Georgian Dream said they are removing posters eventually. However, we observed that Margvelashvili’s posters were removed only in the city center while they are still on the walls in the suburbs and villages.

Head of local office of Nino Burjanadze’s political party also said they are removing posters eventually.

As for the UNM, local office leader Kakha Askurava said Georgian Dream’s members assisted them in the removal of Bakradze’s posters. However, we still found some posters of Bakradze in the city center.

Chairman of the Lanchkhuti DEC Zviad Nakaidze told humanrights.ge that local government shall resolve the problems of posters.

Board chairman Amiran Gigineishvili promised they will pay attention to the issue and if terms are breached, fines will be imposed on election subjects in accordance to the law.
