Trial into the case against former Kakheti deputy regional governor Giorgi Sibashvili is still underway at Telavi district court. Former employee of the regional development agency was questioned at the trial on January 24.

Agency representative Zhuzhuna Gelashvili said she could not often travel to the office in Telavi because she lived in Tbilisi; however she implemented her job obligations and assigned official documents sent by Giorgi Sibashvili to different persons in Tbilisi.

“Giorgi Sibashvili and my brother had legal agency, where I also worked. After the agency was closed down, I remained unemployed. So, Giorgi offered me to work for the Kakheti Development Agency. I visited regional administration only once when I signed the labor contract and gave them my bank account. I worked from Tbilisi. My responsibility was to assign different documents sent by Giorgi Sibashvili to people in Tbilisi. I worked only two days per week and worked full six months,” Zhuzhuna Gelashvili said and added that she did not have any other information about the Kakheti Development Agency.

Prosecutor Giorgi Liluashvili at Kakheti regional prosecutor’s office stated the witness’ statement proved that Giorgi Sibashvili had formally employed a person, who received salary in it.

Giorgi Sibashvili said the statements of witnesses do not prove his guiltiness. “Prosecutor’s witness could not prove my guiltiness,” Sibashvili said.

Investigative service blames Sibashvili in the abuse of professional authority, in misappropriation and waste of state funds that is punishable by 11-year-imprisonment. 15 000 lari bail was already imposed on the former deputy regional governor. He does not plead guilty. Next round of interrogation will take place at 13:00 pm on February 11.
