Collapse in the Newly Rehabilitated District

February 10, 2014

Shorena Kakabadze, Kutaisi

Façade of one of the buildings in recently rehabilitated district of Kutaisi collapsed and seriously injured a passer-by. 18-year-old person was placed in the Western Georgia’s Regional Clinic Hospital; his conditions are still grave. Law enforcement officers are studying the incident.

Interim Mayor of Kutaisi released special statement with regard to this fact. Shota Murgulia blames the former government for the incident. “The accident occurred as a result of the collapse of the building rehabilitated during the governance of the United National Movement. It proved that former government did everything at a low quality and without sense of responsibility. However, they are speaking about suspended infrastructural projects and criticizes current government for that,” Shota Murgulia said.

Member of the Kutaisi City Council from the United National Movement Gia Gokadze responded to Murgulia’s statement. “Murgulia is speculating with the incident. He’d better sometimes leave his working room and walk around the city; if he finds anything poorly rehabilitated, he can allocate funds for the rehabilitation from the city budget.”
