Prisoners Injured Themselves

February 10, 2014

Shorena Kakabadze, Kutaisi

Inmates of Geguti Prison # 14 were taken to Kutaisi Intervention Medical Center last night with self-injuries. Their relatives and family members gathered at the prison at night.

Attorneys of the Public Defender of Georgia were mobilized at the prison due to recent tense situation in the penitentiary establishment. They said the prisoners protested inhuman treatment in the establishment and requested change of the prison administration. About 800 inmates have been on hunger-strike with the request for one week.

Reportedly, special unit intended to enter the prison to establish order in it. However, the information was not confirmed.
