Trial on Merabishvili-Chiaberashvili Case Approaching the End

February 10, 2014

Shorena Kakabadze, Kutaisi

Discussion of Merabishvili-Tchiaberashvili case is approaching to the end at the Kutaisi City Court. On February 7, Kutaisi City Court was discussing the final statement of the prosecutor during five hours. Prosecutor’s Office believes the final statement clearly presented all arguments, which prove guiltiness of the former minister of healthcare and former prime-minister in the so-called employment case.

The defendant side does not share his position and claims the final statement once more proved weakness of the prosecutor’s office. “The final statement did not provide any analysis. We listened to the statement during five hours, that was unprecedented fact in the judiciary practice. Prosecutor was reading what witnesses said, etc. However, they did not say in what they are accusing the people,” Otar Kakhidze lawyer of Vano Merabishvili and Zurab Chiaberashvili said; he blames the prosecutor’s office in the implementation of the political order.

On February 12, the defense side will make the final statement. Afterwards, the court will pass verdict. Kutaisi City Hall shall pass verdict on the case at the end of February.
